Save Money and Meet the Challenge
Pay as you throw… households that generate a smaller amount of trash may request a 68-gallon refuse cart and pay $2.60 a month less for trash service, an annual savings of $31.20. Service with a 95-gallon cart is $13.85 per month, and service with a 68-gallon cart is $11.25 per month.
Many families use a smaller trash cart if they recycle more! Fill up the recycle cart with acceptable items, including newspapers, magazines, junk mail, office paper, small card board boxes, #1 and #2 plastic bottles, glass jars and bottles, aluminum cans, metal cans, chipboard (found in cereal and cracker boxes) and telephone books. Additionally, to encourage more recycling, the City of Plano will deliver a second recycle cart for no additional monthly charge.
Glenna Brown, Recycling Education Coordinator, announced that the City of Plano’s Sustainability and Environmental Services Department has issued a Recycling Challenge for 2007 to recycle 25,000 tons by September 30, 2007. "Through the end of February, we are 18% below where we need to be in order to meet this goal," Ms. Brown said. “Neighborhood associations can have a positive impact on recycling by encouraging everyone in the association to recycle as much as they can for the good of the environment and to save money,” Ms. Brown said.
