  • Read Across America Day
Dr. Seuss couldn't have said it any better: "You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child." The singsong rhythm of Hop on Pop and Cat in the Hat has made Dr. Seuss books popular reading companions for generations of children. It turns out that those rhymes - or actually hearing those rhyming patterns - may result in more than just bedside entertainment. Held every year on March 2 - the birthday of the beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss - Read Across America Day is an awareness campaign designed to motivate children to read. The event, which is sponsored by the National Education Association, is celebrated in communities throughout the nation. Participation simply requires a child to read in the company of a caring adult. Plano ISD classes spent the day reading Dr. Seuss books and participating in Dr. Seuss-related activities.
